Nine dead in Piedras Negras

It was a violent afternoon on December 14th in Piedras Negras, Coahuila. When it was all over five civilians and four soldiers were killed, with three other militia members seriously injured.

Municipal, state and federal access to the scene of the violence remained cordoned off by military troops for over an hour. It was not until after 3:30 p.m. that the Attorney General's Office was given access to the dead.

Four of the five civilian deaths occurred at the Perez Trevino bypass. The fifth died in a truck on Bay Street in Las Palmas II Escondida.

Unofficial reports stated that four soldiers were killed, and three more injured, when their Chevrolet truck overturned.

Due to the severity of the injuries sustained by the three soldiers, at 4 p.m. a Mexican Army Bell 212 helicopter arrived in Piedras Negras in order to transfer them to a military hospital in Nuevo León.
